The team at Franklin Robotics.
We at Franklin Robotics are passionate about designing robots that free you from tiresome household chores.
The inventor of Roomba, Joe Jones, and veteran roboticist Rory MacKean, both of MIT, founded Franklin Robotics in 2015. After investigating a range of robotic applications they determined that the garden was the best place to start. They envisioned a robot that could tackle the biggest garden challenge—weeding—and enable people to experience the joy of gardening without the need to continuously pull weeds or spray herbicides.
The Weeding Vision
Tertill is the first robot designed to easily and continuously weed your home garden. Tertill is rugged enough to stay in the garden all season long, smart enough to distinguish between a weed and a plant, and efficient enough to run using only the power of the sun.
A Kickstarter/Indiegogo preorder campaign launched Tertill in 2017. The campaign was a wild success, securing almost 2000 preorders, and showing that Tertill met a clear customer need. Thanks to all our great early supporters, Tertill is now available for purchase, bringing joy to gardeners throughout the country.
Our Product Philosophy
At Franklin Robotics we are committed to ensuring you continue to love your robot. That is why we work to improve how well our robots work through continuous research and collection of customer feedback. We then incorporate these improvements into not only our future designs but make them available for download to our existing customers free of charge. After all who wants an outdated robot!
Our commitment to making products that work goes beyond strong engineering. When we develop a new robot we provide them to leading academic researchers to test their effectiveness in rigorous studies. As of today, researchers at Cornell University and the University of Maine are studying Tertill’s ability to control weeds without the use of herbicides. Early results show Tertill has major impact on controlling weeds, and both institutions are in the process of publishing these results in leading agricultural journals.
We are delighted that our first robot, Tertill, is helping so many people experience more success, more fun, and less frustration gardening. We are investing 100% of Tertill’s profits back into further product upgrades as well as the production of other useful robots. After all, nothing warms the hearts of our roboticists more than developing robots that free you from tiresome household chores.
